Finals
Ah finals. A time for students across the country to lock themselves up and throw away the key. This is perhaps one of the simplest times of the year. As a student your entire purpose for the next 3 weeks is to stuff as much "knowledge" into your brain as possible and then vomit it all over the examination. Just try not to burst before it is all over.
Many find this an incredibly stressful time. Many will not survive without a catastrophic episode. Others may simply not survive. It seems that no matter how the evaluation is distributed it all comes down to this. perhaps writing finals will drive you crazy. Or maybe you must be crazy just to put yourself through this. perhaps, the most terrifying crazies are those who are looking forward to it. perhaps I am looking forward to it...
You see I find finals offer a certain kind of relaxation. Almost like running on auto pilot. There are far fewer time commitments. All you need to do is wake up and begin learning, ah finally some learning. No long lab sessions, no lectures, no assignment deadlines. Finally I can sit down and learn something, instead of just trying to get some "work" done. Over the next 3 weeks most of my life falls into the free time category and with this free time I can finally do what students are meant to do which is learn.
With all this free time why do I choose to "learn"? Well, I like to learn. I would be lying if I said I didn`t, and I guess that makes sense because what student should be is a professional "learner". The reason for learning is to further ones knowledge, understanding, reason, and application. The ends of which are difficult to quantify.
The world attempts to focus on the quantification. How much do you know? 60, 80, 90, 70, 100. What is it that you know? Well I know that those are numbers, and I understand where you are trying to go with these numbers. But it wont work. You can study for the numbers and you will probably get them, but in the end do you even know what the numbers mean. I have given up on the numbers. No, I quite on the numbers.
I havn`t even looked at my midterm marks assignment marks. In the end they are all pretty hollow. This time I just study for the hell of it, because I feel like it. The world will always try to find the bottom line, but my "knowledge" is rising not falling. So I wont be found on the bottom line, I will be drawing it.

Where Will You Be in 2 Months Time?
In one month, two months, four months even eight months most people my age will be doing one of two things. The majority of my peers will be either going to school or working full time, and I will be racing my bicycle. School? pause button. Work? haha. Leaving it all behind, in search of never-land.
This year I will be racing for an Espoir Team based out of Ottawa, Ontario. Team Fresh Air Experience/OBC. Although eastern Canada is unfamiliar to me, I am very excited. I don`t think I have seen a more motivated group than the individuals that make up this team. Non-more so than Team Manager and Coach Michael Dekelver. Michael has built this team on fundamentals for performance, communication and team work. I will be working closely with him to kick my training into high gear, and develop the speed needed to push me over the top. Look for results at races in Eastern Canada and United States.
Here's a general time-line of my whereabouts.
Today - Saskatoon
One Month - Tucson, Arizona
Two Months - Still Tucson
Four Months - Ottawa, Ontario
Eight Months - Still In Ottawa

Re-Building My Bike
Well it's that time of year. I've had about as much running as I can handle this fall. The huskies are great and it did keep me in shape, but the love is for the bike and I am ready to rip in 2011. This week I have been re-building my bike literally and figuratively.
Literally
Earlier this fall I cannibalized my road bike. I moved 90% of the parts to a cyclo-cross frame. I striped everything down. Right down to the bearings. It all gets a good sound cleaning. and then pieced back together into a proper road bike. I actually find this entire process to be very relaxing, even zen like.
Figuratively
Re-building everything. Big news and Big plans for 2011. A new year. A new Team. A new city. A new winter. A new program with new tools. More on all that later this week.
Tonight a new base period began with a little bike ride on the Saskatoon indoor running track. I have never been so excited to ride around a 200m circle for 2hrs, I was super stoked to be on my bike tonight. You can expect to find me turning circles at the Saskatoon field-house every Sunday night. play this video on loop for 2hrs and you get the full experience.

square one
poor cross bike, it has no idea what is comming
road bike going to get a major face lift
In Saskatchewan we do it right. We clean our bikes with diesel.
take it all apart, polish, rebuild
Now that looks like a bike.
And that is a hollow shell until next fall
